Why the area matters more when you are alone

In a group, a big club works because you brought your own company. Alone, the same room offers nowhere to stand, nobody to talk to over the volume, and a table system built for four or more.

Places with a bar you can sit at, or a street where people are already standing around, invert that. Khao San is the extreme case — the entire evening happens outdoors and talking to strangers is the norm rather than an approach.
